Iron chelation associated to blood transfusions is required for the successful treatment of many haemoglobinopathies but, as yet, few drugs have been developed for children. A consortium of experts in the DEEP network is thus conducting paediatric clinical trials on an international scale to confi rm the suitability of deferiprone for young individuals.
