Consorzio per Valutazioni Biologiche e Farmacologiche - CVBF

The mission of the Consorzio per Valutazioni Biologiche e Farmacologiche (CVBF) is to perform research and education in the pharmaceutical field integrating regulatory, epidemiological, economical and statistical expertise. In this context CVBF main activities are: development and implementation of new methodologies for clinical trials, particularly those related to small populations (paediatrics, rare diseases), management of disease registries, observational studies, pharmacoeconomic evaluations and HTA assessments in the pharmacological field. CVBF has been Project Coordinator in the “Task Force for Drug Development on the Young” (TEDDY), a Network of Excellence of 19 partners funded under FP6 and aimed at facilitating drug development in children, and has participated in several projects funded by European and Italian Authorities. CVBF has longstanding experience in the field of thalassemia, starting in 2000 with the establishment of the Italian Deferiprone Controlled Use Registry, from which the widest data collection on deferiprone use at the time of the study has derived. CVBF is still managing large multicentre studies in different areas, including thalassemia. The staff includes internal personnel and experts involved in the TEDDY experience.

Main tasks in the project

Within the DEEP project, CVBF will be the coordinator of the scientific activities as WP leader of WP1, WP4, WP7 and WP8. In WP1 it will provide the overall scientific strategy and coordination of the project. As WP4 leader it will be responsible for the planning, designing, implementation and analysis of the Efficacy/Safety Clinical Trial. With reference to WP7 it will provide an adequate management structure to ensure the correct development of the work plan during the project and will ensure that all expected results are delivered on time, within cost and with an adequate quality level. As WP8 Leader it will ensure efficient communication with stakeholders outside the project in order to raise awareness about activities and results. In addition CVBF will guarantee that the project plan be completed in due time by all participating partners.
