The Paediatric Unit chaired by Prof. De Mattia is involved in the clinical management of children affected by the principal haemato-oncological diseases including haemoglobinopathies (thalassemia, sickle cell disease and other hemoglobinoses C), bleeding disorders, piastrimopathies, paediatric tumours. The Unit has participated in a number of collaborative national and international programs and studies, both as a participant and a coordinator. The Unit is experienced in the conduction of paediatric clinical studies in children. The unit is a member of the Italian Registry on Deferiprone use and participated in the “Quality of life, treatment satisfaction and economic burden of disease in patients with beta-thalassemia major undergoing iron chelation treatment” project coordinated by CVBF.

Main tasks in the project

Patients’ recruitment for the PK/PD, efficacy/safety and long-term safety studies; study management and reporting.
